Recommended Browser Settings

Moodle is compatible with most modern web browsers including Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and 3, and Safari. For best results, we recommend either Firefox 3 or Safari. If you do not have an up-to-date version of your preferred browser, you can download the latest version from:

For Moodle to function correctly, it is recommended that the following requirements are met:
1) Pop-ups are enabled, 2) Cookies are enabled, and 3) Java is installed, up-todate and enabled.

Logging In

  1. Locate the yellow Login box on the left side or
    right side of the screen.
  2. Enter your username and password.

Your Moodle Profile

The first thing you need to do in Moodle is create a profile of information about yourself. This includes your email address, your photo or other representative image, and a few other fields. You can edit or update your profile by clicking on your name at the top right corner of the page. Then click "Edit profile."

If your email address changes, you will need to update your profile in order to receive any email or notifications from Moodle. A confirmation message will be sent to you and you must click on the link in the email before your new email address takes effect.

There are several settings that are also accessible from your profile that will help make your use of Moodle more productive.

Email format : You can choose to have email sent from Moodle in Plain text format or HTML format. HTML format will include images and the Moodle colour scheme in email.

Forum auto-subscribe: By selecting this, you are automatically subscribed to any forum to which you post a message. This means that you receive email copies of all messages for these forums. You may unsubscribe from forums whenever you want.

Email digest type: You may choose to receive all email from Moodle in one daily message. There is also the option to receive either the complete message or just the Subject titles from forums you subscribe to.

Forum tracking: This highlights unread forum messages so you can quickly see what's new.

Navigating in Moodle

When you are in a Moodle course, notice the navigation bar at the top left of each page. It is a series of links located directly below the course title. It displays where you are within the course and allows you to jump back to a previous menu with the click of a button. It will help you stay orientated as you explore different parts of Moodle.

While it is possible to navigate between pages using the navigation buttons on your web browser, this is not recommended. You will obtain more consistent results by using the navigation options directly within the Moodle site and course pages.
